Data Usage Policy

Core Principle: Your birth chart data is used solely to generate your readings. We do not sell your birth details to data brokers.

1. Purpose of This Policy

This Data Usage Policy supplements our Privacy Policy by providing technical transparency on how specific data points—particularly your birth details—are processed, stored, and utilized within the AstroSaathi AI ecosystem.

2. Categorization of Data

A. Astrological Data (High Sensitivity)

Date of Birth: Used to determine planetary positions (Ephemeris).
Time of Birth: Critical for calculating the Ascendant (Lagna) and House divisions.
Place of Birth: Used to calculate Latitude/Longitude for sunrise/sunset corrections.

B. Interaction Data (Medium Sensitivity)

Chat Queries: The specific questions you ask the AI (e.g., "When will I get a job?").
Feedback: Thumbs up/down ratings on predictions.
User Preferences: Selected language, notification settings, and theme choices.

3. How We Process Birth Data

When you enter your birth details, the following automated process occurs:

Geocoding: Your city name is converted to precise Latitude and Longitude coordinates.
Ephemeris Look-up: Our algorithms query the Swiss Ephemeris or NASA JPL data to find the exact celestial coordinates of planets at your birth moment.
Chart Generation: A mathematical division of space (Houses) creates your Kundli.
AI Analysis: This mathematical chart is converted into text tokens, which our Large Language Model (LLM) interprets to generate natural language insights.

4. Data Minimization & Storage

We adhere to the principle of Data Minimization. We only query the data necessary to answer your immediate question.

Encryption at Rest: Your birth data is encrypted in our database using industry-standard AES-256 encryption.
Encryption in Transit: All data transmission between your device and our servers occurs over secure HTTPS (TLS 1.3) channels.
Access Controls: Astrological data is stored in isolated database clusters accessible only by the chart generation microservice. We enforce strict Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).

5. AI Training & Model Improvement

To improve our services, we may use anonymized interaction logs.

We DO NOT use your specific Birth Date/Time/Place to train our foundational models.
We MAY use the structure of questions (e.g., "User asked about career vs marriage") to improve our intent classification systems.
All personal identifiers (PII) are stripped before any data enters an analytics pipeline.

6. Data Localization & Sovereignty

For users in India: In compliance with emerging data sovereignty norms, your primary personal data is stored on servers located within India (e.g., AWS Mumbai Region). Backups may be stored in other secure jurisdictions with equivalent data protection laws.

7. Data Deletion Protocol

You retain full ownership of your data. If you delete your account or specific profiles:

Immediate: Access to the data is revoked immediately.
Hard Delete: The data is permanently purged from our active databases within 30 days.
Backups: Encrypted backups may retain data for up to 90 days for disaster recovery purposes before being overwritten.
